“O, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive!”
That famous quotation comes from 19th-century Scottish novelist Walter Scott, but it is certainly appropriate today as it applies to the re-emerging hate hoax scandal involving actor Jussie Smollett, of “Empire” fame.
It seems as though he may have had a lot more to do with planning the hoax than originally thought.
According to Town Hall, the two Nigerian brothers “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett reportedly enlisted to help him stage his ‘alleged’ hate crime attack have filed a defamation suit against his legal team. In the suit, they are claiming that Smollett planned out the attack and even directed it. The brothers, Ola and Abel Osundairo, say the stunt was all about advancing Smollett’s career.
To recap, recall that Smollett earlier this year claimed that he had been beaten up by a pair of white males — presumably supporters of POTUS Donald Trump because he claimed they were wearing red MAGA caps — who shouted racial and homosexual epithets at him as they beat him during the cold, wee hours one morning. One of them even said, ”This is Trump country!” we were told.
Instant hate crime, right? And what’s more, we get to pin it on that chronically racist, bigoted president of ours!
Wrong. Turns out that Chicago P.D. had the goods on Smollett practically from the outset of their investigation. But a corrupt, racially motivated prosecutor — Kim Foxx — refused to press ahead with charges, despite the police department’s evidence and recommendation.
And, according to the Nigerian brothers’ lawsuit, not only was the hate crime fake but the motivation behind it was entirely self-serving.
“Smollett’s motivation was simple,” the brothers wrote in their suite “He wanted his employer and the public to notice and appreciate him as a successful black, openly gay actor. So, Mr. Smollett directed every aspect of the attack, including the location and the noose.” (Related: It was a HOAX! During a press conference Tuesday morning, the brothers’ lawyers say that Smollett’s legal team has made several remarks defaming their character.
The suit was filed against two of Smollett’s attorneys, Mark Geragos and Tina Glandian. It claims that Smollett paid the brothers “a sum of money to stage the attack, including the location and the noose” that he showed up to his apartment with, still hanging around his neck.
The Gateway Pundit noted further that the two brothers were dropped by talent agents, allegedly because of statements made about them by Garagos and Glandian.
CBS News reporter Charlie de Mar tweeted, “The brothers feel unsafe and alienated in Chicago as a result of Jussie Smollett attorney statements. Mark Geragos claimed that Ola had a sexual relationship with Jussie Smollett on a podcast. Lawsuit strongly denies those claims. Adding that Ola was in a relationship with a woman at the time.”
In a statement, the brothers defended themselves.
“We have sat back and watched lie after lie being fabricated about us in the media only so one big lie can continue to have light. These lies are destroying our character and reputation and personal life,” they said. “Those who know us personally know we don’t have hate for anyone. That is not who we are. We try to spread love and positivity. We will no longer sit back and allow these lies to continue.”
Despite the fact that the Chicago PD had Smollett dead to rights for the ‘tangled web of deceit’ he allegedly wove, Foxx dropped all charges against him, prompting the police union to call for an investigation into her conduct.
She can redeem herself right now by reopening the case and pursuing charges outlined by the police, now that the Nigerian brothers have implicated him as being even more deeply involved in planning this hoax.
