Because Democrats (and some Republicans) have lost their minds over the fact that a billionaire real estate developer and consummate political outsider managed to win the presidency in 2016, they’ve been trying to get rid of Donald Trump ever since.
The Deep State and its allies in the establishment political and media class have done everything from labeling the president a racist and a bigot to launching a full-fledged soft coup against him via “Spygate.” So far, nothing has worked; Trump has proven to be more savvy, resilient, and smarter than his competitors.
But they’re not done yet — and neither is Judicial Watch, the organization that, frankly, ought to be running the president’s Justice Department.
Most Americans have yet to hear about Felix Sater, a former official within the Trump Organization who was recently confirmed to have been an informant for the FBI and the CIA. While working for the Trump Organization in 2016, as the then-GOP nominee Donald Trump geared up to take on Hillary Clinton, Sater was in Moscow pushing a real estate deal for a hotel than never materialized.
According to a press release on Monday, Judicial Watch has filed a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the Justice Department seeking all documents including FBI 302 interview reports “and offer agreements between former Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s office and” Sater.
The Wall Street Journal reported last month that the Russian-born Sater, who was caught up in a stock fraud scheme in the late 1990s, used to be a business associate of the president’s. After being busted by the FBI, he began cooperating with federal prosecutors in an unprecedented manner.
“Sater went above and beyond what is expected of most cooperators and placed himself in great jeopardy in doing so,” prosecutors wrote in an Aug. 27, 2009, letter released this week in attempting to get him a lighter prison term. On the merits of his cooperation, federal prosecutors held off his sentencing for more than 10 years, which is an unusually long period of time. His work for prosecutors included going undercover in Cyprus in order to catch Russian cyber criminals as well as passing along tidbits of information about terrorist activities and a possible presidential-assassination plot.
Now, Judicial Watch wants to know more about Sater and his work for the government now that Trump’s political enemies are attempting to bring up another “Russia” angle regarding the Trump Hotel project in Moscow that never came to pass.
Judicial Watch’s press release noted:
The Mueller report mentions Sater more than 100 times but fails to mention that he was an active undercover informant for the FBI/CIA for more than two decades. In 2017, Sater was the subject of two interviews conducted under a proffer agreement with Mueller’s office according to page 69, footnote 304 of Mueller’s report on his Russian collusion investigation.
Previously, Judicial Watch chief investigative reporter Micah Morrison noted that beginning in late 2015, after the president decided to throw his hat into a crowded GOP presidential field, Sater attempted to arrange for former Trump personal lawyer Michael Cohen and Trump to go to Russia as representatives of the Trump Organization to meet with Russian government officials and potential financial partners.
The push by Sater was rejected by the future president but Sater persisted nonetheless, telling Cohen in an email in the spring of 2016 he was trying to arrange a meeting between Trump and Vladimir Putin.
Sater’s re-emergence “suggests the possibility of a more sinister counter-narrative: that someone may have been trying to lure Trump into a trap—a politically damaging entanglement with Moscow money,” Morrison wrote.
Ultimately, no project got off the ground as Trump appears to have abandoned it after deciding to run for president. But of course, his haters will never acknowledge that.
